TREKSPACE

The social network for Star Trek Fans!

Well, what the heck! Despite the fact that most fans seem to hate ST V, I'm here to embarrass myself and admit that it's one of my favorites!

I love the whole "marshmellon" scene. Spock: "Oh, I am sorry, Doctor. Were we having a good time?" Come on! LOL!

I think the comedy is cute throughout, but best thing is the core underneath. Kirk's whole I-need-my-pain bit. YES!!!

(Huh! I wonder, what would Kirk say if he knew that Spock helped him "forget" in REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH?!)

A big thumbs up :)

Hokey plot but I can forgive this because of the wonderful characterisation. Plus, although many fans will disagree, I found it as funny as Trek IV.

IV needed more character work while V needed more plot work, but both are entirely amusing.

I will say it's my least favourite feature thus far, but only by a small margin. My favourite being III with One, Two and Four equally in between that and Five.

You actually liked Nemesis? That movie was so awful.

TFF isn't my favorite Trek movie (at least it had a coherent, logical plot *coughs*Nemesis*coughs*) I think it had some great quotes, such as "I've always known I'll die alone" "I need my pain" and many others, all in all I thinks its better than TSFS and the TNG movies except FC, its not "bad" I just like the other movies more

I like allot of the characters in Final Frontier. The movies started going down hill after Search for Spock until Generations- in my opinion. At least it wasn't as bad as the Voyage Home- that movie was crap.

after 2 and 3 they needed to lighten the mood up so hense 4 happened and 5 was imo shouldve been called the search for more money... but it had its good points. my thought tho is what happened to spocks face. did leonard have a lift after 5 was made?

A commedian, Kevin Pollack has this great impression he does of Star Trek - he did it before Star Trek V premiered and he called it: "Star Trek V: the Search for Cash". You can find it on you tube and it is rather funny.

Star Trek V has its moments and it has some that are clearly a stretch. I remember the hatred and vitriol when the movie premiered YET it made more money than Nemesis!

I left the theatre satisfied. It wasn't the best and clearly wasn't the worst. Reading the biographies of Nichols, Takei, Nimoy, Shatner (Movie Memories and Television Memories) and Lisabeth Shatner's book: The Making of Star Trek V, I am left with a bad taste of Shatner and how he treated his compatriots in the movie and its production.

There are subtle attacks at Scotty, Checkov, Uhura and Sulu that do show on screen:

1. Uhura displaying her wares in the desert,
2. Checkov growing up to be Captain,
3. Scotty hitting his head after his famous proclamation,
4. Sulu getting lost.

While these did bring a laugh, you know you have problems with a movie when the audience laughs at Kirk's question to the God of Shakaree: "I have a question."

Audiences laughed at that line AND it wasn't meant to be funny.

I do not believe that this movie is better than The Search for Spock. It is telling though in that this movie made more money than Nemesis. Star Trek fans did not go see the movie because their fellow fans were telling 'em what they thought of it and they made the decision not to go. Why go? LOTR, James Bond and Harry Potter were all playing at this same time. Make a good Star Trek movie and the audience will show, make a bad movie and . . .

No matter, this movie certainly has problems and it suffered from a hollywood strike, paramount's notorious money allocation, and megolomaniac that wanted to hike the ball, hand it off, take the hand off and score the touchdown. Read it! William Shatner and Harve Bennett actually had that conversation during the writing of the screen play. I would gladly see the movie because of who is in it and because it does, in fact, have some great moments of star trek storytelling.

Those are my three cents.

I love this movie. The camping part is my FAVORITE. I laughed so hard the first time I saw it. When my friends and I go camping, this scene is what we do.
