in the episode justice you the peaceful planet that was filled with sensual people didn't they already violate the prime directive when they interacted with them the reaction of Rivan they obvious never seen a starship let alone space i believe she said you have big cities in the sky then when she returned she says and i quote " you share a sky with god you must be gods" so to me the EDO would be considered Pre-warp the dremens seem more advanced with walls that can open up just by touching it not to mention they had radio transmission so how did picard screw up from the beginning by the letting the crew meet the edo?

Excellent question!That occurred to me too.And you know what?I think I understand what happened...although I really do wish a line or 2 of dialogue has been added confirming this...

Obviously the Edo are not spacefaring or even very technically advanced.However,it wouldn't be a Prime Directive violation if the Edo were already aware of the existence of interstellar life.See,there are a LOT of spacefaring races out there,not all of which would adopt the 'hands-off' policy that the Prime Directive demands of the Federation.

Obviously some else contacted them first(the Klingons,maybe or independent traders,who knows?) and told Starfleet "hey,it's okay,these guys already know about us.Relax!"But as long as the damage was already done beforehand,Starfleet people revealing themselves to the Edo doesn't do anything to change the situation already in play.

True, but how do we know that the EDO didn't contact the Federation? How do we know that they didn't have contact with other alien species, such as the Ferengi? We don't. If they had contact with other races, then the only worry about the Prime Directive would be the issues concerning capital punishment.

I am surprised no one said Picard's head was backwards or that he was only thinking of a way to score points (you know what I mean) with Dr. Crusher by saving Wesley's ass in that episode.
