The social network for Star Trek Fans!
I'm a big fan of podcasts. Whenever I'm online, there is always either music or a podcast playing along in the background. I'm always on the lookout for a new Trek-themed podcast to listen to, so I figured I'd list some of my favorites and hopefully pick up some suggestions on new ones to check out.
My favorites:
Treks in sci-fi. http://treksinscifi.com/podcast_notes/
It's a long-running podcast produced by a gentleman named Rick Dostie. Most episodes are Trek-centric, but it occasionally strays onto other sci-fi films & shows. The format varies, but some of my favorite episodes are the ones in which the host focuses on a particular episode or movie & gives a summary, along with his thoughts on the episode, spiced up with occasional clips from the episode.
Trekcast. http://www.trekcast.com/
A pretty awesome show that focuses solely on Star Trek. The hosts have a pretty good chemistry, which makes for some entertaining listening.
Love Long and Prosper. http://lovelongandprosper.com/podcast/
This is (was?) a podcast produced by a married couple who are obviously hard-core Star Trek fans. The format: Each episode, the duo review an episode & give their thoughts, as well as respond to listener feedback. A very cool show, but unfortunately, it appears to be on hiatus. The feed is still active, though, so I advise checking it out before it dies.
The Gamma Quadrant. http://gammaquadrant.libsyn.com/
A podcast all about DS9. The trio of hosts are currently reviewing every episode of DS9 in chronological order. The show is often funny, and provides some interesting opinions on the world of DS9.

Gosh, I haven't listened actively to a Trek podcast in years (and I mean years). Thanks for the suggestions. I just might check a few of these out.

Right now, Trekcast, Gamma Quadrant, & Defiant... which seem to be the only ones that I started listening to, and are still putting out episodes. Although Defiant seems to have faded into the Never-never.
Permalink Reply by Eric on October 20, 2012 at 6:31am I haven't heard of Defiant; thanks for the heads-up! :-) From glancing at their page, I'm guessing it's an audio drama, right?
Anyone else out there have any suggestions on 'casts to check out?
Permalink Reply by kukalakana on October 20, 2012 at 7:56pm Yes -- it is a series of audio plays. I used to listen to a lot of others (Make it so; Talk Trek; Trekkie cast; Section 31; and a lot of the other Darker projects productions) but apart from S31 which I just lost interest in [I'm not really a gamer and a lot of their episodes just seemed to be talking about them and their mates], all of those seem to have stopped putting out episodes.
Permalink Reply by Benjamin Craig Stanley on October 20, 2012 at 7:54am I currently listen to 3 Trek podcasts.
Trek Companion is my favorite show, they have been doing DS9 since late 2010, and they usually cover 3 to 4 episodes of DS9 per show, a new episode is released every 2 weeks, and they just finished DS9 actually, and are now moving onto TNG.
Treknologic, this show does a little everything, they jump around from week to week covering random episodes, which might sound chaotic, but it's actually very enjoyable. They do alot of extra stuff as well, such as trivia, and play act at the start of most of the episodes, which is in relation to something from the episode they are doing that week. They also have a special segment that they call the Listening Post, which is where they read and respond on the show all of the emails and reviews and comments they receive from listeners.
Mission Log, this is a fairly new show, but really good. Their goal is to review every episode of Trek ever in it's original airdate order. They do one episode per week, and have started with TOS Season 1 and that show has been great so far.
I used to listen to the Gamma Quadrant and dropped them after they first started Season 7 of DS9, some may enjoy the show, but I thought it was crap. Because they hate Star Trek, they can swear up and down they are fans but they are not fans. They are casual viewers of DS9 only, and hate all Trek other than DS9 and they don't even seem to like DS9 all that much half the time. They complained about DS9 more than anything. Within a 10 episode span you might get 2 or 3 episodes that they weren't saying was horrible or stupid or that having to watch it again would be punishment. It's just all garbage and there's too many shows out there where the people actually love Trek. I love Star Trek and want to hear what others like about it, not what they don't like.
Permalink Reply by Eric on October 20, 2012 at 9:02pm Trek Companion, Treknologic and Mission Log sound pretty interesting, I'll check them out. Thanks!
Permalink Reply by Benjamin Craig Stanley on October 21, 2012 at 5:42pm I'm sure you'll enjoy them! I've actually been on Trek Companion. On episode 34 I believe it was. It was the episode where they review the last 3 episodes of Season 5 of DS9, I got to be a guest on the show.

I just checked out the episode where they review the finale of DS9- Very cool stuff. The hosts are well-spoken, have a great group-dynamic, and really dig deep into the episodes. Very cool podcast. :-)
Permalink Reply by Benjamin Craig Stanley on October 22, 2012 at 7:54am Yeah they are, I really like them. I've been listening to them since they first started, and I talk to Brian Williams regularly in emails. He says I am their number 1 fan lol
