What makes you think it was J.J. wrote off those planets? Why not the writers?

Besides, if you check your DVDs in the prime timeline, you'll see that Vulcan exists, it's just Romulus that won't after the events of Nemesis ;)

In the new timeline, Romulus still exists, but Vulcan does not.

Also, Spock/Uhura was alluded to several times in TOS, albeit subtly. That doesn't matter though because this is a completely different timeline which was altered 20-odd years before the central events of XI.

As for my opinion on the movie--I thought it was awesome. Bold and refreshing. Just what the series needed.

I wasn't very happy with the movie either.

[1] They made Kirk seem like an idiot. He's not an idiot, he's just really full of himself sometimes, haha.

[2] Waaaaay too much emotion for Spock. He would so NOT be provoked that easily. However I liked the part where he was a child and had problems with emotions. Child Spock can haz emotions :P

[3] Spock/Uhura. Whaaaat?! I know it was hinted at in TOS, but it never went anywhere because it HAD to be Kirk that kissed Uhura and not Spock (even though it should've been Spock). Even so, I didn't like the Spock/Uhura in the movie. The girl just didn't seem like Uhura to me. And... idk... it just didn't seem right. If you watch the episode Charlie X from Season 1 of TOS there's a scene with Uhura singing about Spock and it's sooooo cute, but in the new movie this relationship was not cute. :[

[4] Pavel Chekov!!! OH... MY.... GOD.... The guy who played Chekov was soooooo adorable, and he played him perfectly. Super super cute. Pavel is one of my favs and I was so glad someone played him perfectly! :3

[5] Vulcan gone? But... What about when it's like Vulcan mating time and Spock's all *Pon Farr* oh no. D: Maybe he can just roll around in the dirt with Jim again and he'll be better, haha. Seriously though... why'd they have to destroy Vulcan? Not cool.

[6] McCoy. They nailed McCoy. The guy even had his news-anchor combover XD It was hot :P And... just... Idk.... Yaaay!

[7] OLD SPOCK!!! Leonard Nimoy... he totally has a place in my heart. :3 Coolest dude ever. And he was old Spock! Aaaah! Awesome. That gave this new movie cool points in my view, and uhm just gonna say the snow suit thing looked like it had a space helmet and that was adorable :3

okay that is my feelings on the movie. Good movie, but as a Trek film... not so great.

I agree totally with your comments!!!!

The movie was built in a shift time line, making ething "different".

There was repetition of Kirk "hanging on something" ( as child almost felt in the clif), then on a drill to Vulcan and later in Neros ship when rescuing Pike). The scenes repeated but the effects were fantanstic.

The enterprise, took my heart! when I saw it there, after so many years not been in the movies, the she was brilliant, the inside of the ship was so cool, the consoles different but very clever, I love the movie!!!! went to see it 4 times already.
