You have all put more thought into this than Berman or Braga did. I was dismayed when listening to the commentary track to hear them actually making fun of the fact that they had no clue who he was and that so many Trekkies were wondering. Unfortunately, these guys seemed to be always just one step ahead of themselves and not sure where they were going (at least by Enterprise). Just last night I watched The Expanse, which was the last episode of season 2, and it was pretty clear they hadn't decided who the Xindi were yet but had just made up the name as a placeholder. While I appreciate some of the good things they did for Trek, I think we deserved better than, "Who was the shadowy guy?", "We had no clue!"
hmmm.... Writers not knowing such things can occasionally work in a story's favour. Have heard rumours that they might have answered that question better if Enterprise had continued further than the first four seasons.

However -- I agree that it is not good to make fun of fans for wondering. I mean isn't that the whole idea of having a shady guy in the first place? To make people wonder??!

One of the key disadvantages of having everything cut off before it finished -- I guess. Strange thing, though. Clearly somebody had to play this guy. I don't think he sounds even a teeny bit like Nero although I suppose there's no reason why he could not have been of some Romulan descent. ^_^ joshin' kind of.

Interesting -- do you think we would have discovered him to be someone that we knew from earlier?? (a la Scream movies, or Agatha Christie type whodunnits) or would he have just been somebody random. I love that one instance when "he" turned out to be Archer!! Classic.

Perhaps he's an Admiral. Admirals always seem to end up doing dodgy things.
I wholeheartedly agree!I know that I am not the only fan who was disappointed that this was never fully resolved. In the best of all possible worlds I would have preferred an answer that served to help unify the saga and made Enterprise less of this extra part that was just kinda hanging on by its tendrils. An answer like "It was the Romulans from the future"or even "it was those creepy guys from Storm Front" would have been okay.I know there was pressure to end the whole Temporal Cold war thing which is why Storm front even exists. But it bothers me that in their rush to end that storyline they didn't payoff the essential mystery or even consider that we might like it explained. In fact the whole rushed nature of the Storm front story in which the timewar both did and didn't happens continues to drive me bonkers.Only the ending of Twin Peaks has frustrated me more...and that wasn't even an ending!
I have always had a hunch that future guy was a Romulan...no way to prove it. I say this because of his stance or bearing while shrouded...arrogant.
Another indication that he might have been a Romulan (or Vulcan ?), is very obvious. Just look at the suit he's wearing. It's very much looking like the Romulan / Vulcan civil clothing. The way his head is looking (well, at least what is visible of his head) and the way he is talking, also reminds me of either a Vulcan or a Romulan.
That's a good question, maybe some research into that subject is in order.

haha. Only joking.

You know I've been going over my DVDs and I think I do get a glimpse of the pointed earyness of which you speak! But I don't really buy the Vulcan theory simply because of the line"We didn't wish to involve the humans or the Vulcans. Not yet."I kind of think there might have been some thought that he might have been a Romulan that early in the show. The writers says they didn't have an answer when they started but it took a LONG time for them to introduce the Romulans into Enterprise and you gotta admit. The sort of stuff he and the Cabal(the other spackle guys)were up to was stuff that was right up the Romulans' ally.Sowing discord among the Klingon Empire, manipulating events in Earth's past...it's not too hard to see that one of the Romulan's goals if he had that sort of technology would have been to destroy the Federation before it even gets started.

Soval being an ass...can't really argue with that.Although I found it odd that they chose to make him a 'deviant' mind melder since he was one of the least Vulcan Vulcan characters ever.

a question left unexplored and unanswered which raises the question if everyone hated voyager as much people said they why was voyager allowed to continue longer the enterprise.

Because it came before. Voyager was UPN's flagship show and the new network's only constant as it was trying to define what other kinds of shows it was going to offer. ENT filled Voyager's spot when the network was more established and might have had good ratings for it's premier but then a sharp decline. I always thought it looked great but never understood the need for the temporal war. I thought future guy would HAVE to be someone Archer knew, for drama/story reasons but lost faith the creators knew much about drama and story when Klingon first contact was so lame compared to the mess Picard briefly describes in the TNG Episode "First Contact"

I was still feeling burned by Voyager's end after sticking with it every ep. I felt no investment in these new characters (at the time) so it was easy for me to stop tuning in while I would still hear tidbits from more faithful fans than seemed to reinforce my disinterest. ...until Brent Spiner guest starred in the fourth and I read Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (my fav trek book authors) were on the writing staff. I was hooked when I saw more genuine effort to connect with the original series but it had been put in a time slot where networks send shows to die. The final episode burned me again. Thank god for "The Good that Men Do" for fixing it, in my mind.

Human or Terran

In the Star Trek world- humans are also called Terran's. Our planet is Earth-as called by (humans). If using the Terran identity, would that make (earth) Terran Prime?See More
