Perhaps someone can help me out here -- So many reactions seem to be quite disproportionately adverse -- and a lot of the stuff that Keiko does and says (although she does have her foibles, sure.) just seem to me like a natural reaction to the situation she's in.

other then the fact that I love Asian women I think I like her cus she is Asian lol. na I like that she came over from tng and she is a strong female character. she has bin in some dam good eps. TNG & DS9.
remember when Keiko made her crab cakes for Julian. wow now that looked good.
Yep I used to remember getting something very similar from the supermarket in Japan. Those things are yummy and filling. I get the feeling that Japanese food became a bit of an acquired taste for O'Brien because he didn't seem to mind the idea of Keiko making tempura or whatever else for the family.

And that breakfast that she made in "The Wounded" looked quite yummy too -- maybe that's because I really like so much Japanese food. ^_^ I'd have said -- "Hey Miles. If you don't want that then give it to me! I'll eat it."
I liked Keiko. I thought it was good to see a marriage relationship get worked out in the Starfleet environment. I thought it was good to see the trials they went through and how their relationship grew. I liked seeing their family grow too!
Miles and Keiko were the Perfect Couple , and probably the most enduring couple in Star Trek , with Tom and B'elanna Paris from Voyager coming a close second . But , Keiko was a Botanist who loved working with nature and hated Space , and she was a Whiner ! I think everyone was thinking , she should be dumped at the nearest Klingon colony .
Almost certainly she was written this way , because you can see the excellence in Rosalind Chao's acting , with her being a constant headache (not to mention her own) for her husband , miles . So , who do you think we can compare her to ? Well , on 'Enterprise' , you had Lt Hoshi Sato , comm's and xenolinguistic expert , who also hated 'Space' and liked to complain about it to everyone on aboard ! Hoshi , was played by the exceptional Linda Park .
What other couples were there in Star Trek . Well there was avery suspicious couple in the Original Series . Who were they ?
Others worth a mention may be , Ben and Kasidy Sisko , and Trip and T'Pol Tucker ?
I was going to reply, but worf22 pretty much summed up my feelings. You said it, brother! Asian women are the physical embodiment of beauty itself.
ohoh yaaa!!!!!!
i don't hate keiko, but she is a bit of a bossy, control freak. Which makes her a perfect yin to O'Brien's yang. He's very stubborn and if he didn't have a independent, strong willed woman at his side then his relationship would be out of proportion. The two work due to the fact she can be bossy and he can be stubborn. i like to see them interact because even if they're fighting (which is all too often) it's cute to see the way they just meld. plus, indeed asian ladies are hotties, hee!
that's funny you say that cus to me I have never seen her as the bossy type. the one time I did see her as force full was when she was trying to convince Captain Sisko that Chief O'Brien & Doctor Bashir were not dead.
I never thought of her as bossy per se either....
I believe you're referring to "DS9: Armageddon Game." She believed that whoever it was in the security video log who had been apparently killed was not her husband, and that the log had somehow been altered. ("Miles never drinks coffee in the afternoon - it keeps him up.") In fact, in the episode she presents a very reasonable case to the captain to investigate the forged recording.

To me, Keiko has never been bitchy, whiny or irritating in the least: she is headstrong and stands up for what she believes in (which brought her into conflict with Kai Win and Bajoran beliefs about the wormhole) but that's hardly "control freak" or "bossy" at all.
I thought there are some times when she can be bossy -- but mostly she is headstrong, as Miles is also. They work well together and sometimes they can be quite sweet to each other. Like I just saw "Accession" again -- which is where Keiko did that little bit of manipulating to get Miles and Julian playing together again because Miles was unhappy almost completely setting aside his leisure activities to be with her and Molly more often. I thought that was a nice gesture for a wife to have made.

The stuff about being unhappy on the station, I just think is a natural reaction of someone who has given up a career she loves to go and be somewhere that she really doesn't want to be -- and moreover, especially doesn't want to be raising her daughter. Some people (not so much here it seems -- but certainly in some places) react to those early scenes like, "Aw Keiko, whiny bitch" -- but I don't think so. Have you never been in a place where you don't want to be and tried your damdest to make it work? It's almost impossible not to act unhappy in such a situation!

Is there perhaps an element of gender prejudice creeping in here with the haters? Some echoes of that old "Shrew" phenomenon where an outspoken woman in a marriage is judged more harshly than an outspken husband?
