How long, as a writer, could I or, should I say it takes to build a ship. On average? Need a little technical help here.

With the loss of so many ships as a result of the Dominion war, what steps will Starfleet Take to rebuild its fleet? Will it build new advanced and powerful ships to patrol and defend the now wide…Continue

Comment by Thomas Stinson on June 14, 2012 at 3:45pm Has anyone given any thought to combining the technologies of all of our allies as well as our own into new and more powerful designs for all of us? If no one has, I will happily volunteer a few theoretical designs for consideration.

Greetings!
A question. Now that Cardassia is free from the yoke of repression, under Dominion rule, they/we will also be building and re-fitting ships, to fill our fleets Older designs will be revived, and will the new allies of our new Union supply technical aide to Cardassia?? Stronger fleets will make other 'would-be' empires think twice about attacking...

Greetings,
I am Lt. K'Hel tai-Kurkura, currently serving onboard USS Cygnus. My "other self", lol, is Lt. Comm. K'Hel vestai-Kurkura, CO IKV Le'VeK, of the Klingon Assault Group. A very good point is being raised here. As a 'real world' Navy vet, I can guarantee that both paths would be followed. Ships would be brought out of moth-balls and new ships would be built. The time frame for a re-fit would naturally be shorter, but would be given the most up-dated equipment. One of my two ships...USS Oklahoma City, was built during WWII, was converted several times, saw action during Viet Nam and was the Flagship of the 7th Fleet. Her final job, was as a target vessel, and was sunk in the Pacific.
So, what does this have to do w/ the Klingon Empire?? Oweing to some stolen data, the designs of many ships are known. We have different ships, in 'mothballs", that can be re-fitted and used to fill the ranks of our warships. We also suffered losses during the Dominion War and, thus ships will be re-fitted and put back on the line as quickly as possible. We will aid our allies and we will be stronger...

Comment by Ellen Asherah on October 14, 2011 at 9:57am With such large numbers of starships, I figure we have only seen a fraction of the designs Star Fleet employs. My guess is that given the size of the Federation, we have seen Star Fleet from Earth's prospective. I figure it would take time to tranfer ships from other areas of the Federation, designed, built and crewed by other members of the Federation, and that Human crewed, Human designed and Human built starships bore the blunt of the losses during the Dominion war. I figure the Federation first actions would be to move starships designed, built and crewed by other members of the Federation further from their home planets to help cover areas of space that Human built Star Fleet starship once patroled. I find it impossible to believe that races like the Andorians stopped building their own design of starships, crewed mostly by Andorians, trained on Andoria, for Star Fleet.
Lessons learned by such loses would be reflected on new Human starship designs. Lets not forget the impact that the loses caused by the Borg had upon human starship design, starting the design and building of the first compact starship we seen Earth build designed primary for combat, which Sisco spent his years after the loss of the starship his wife was on. The fact that more such compact warships were built showed before the start of the Dominion War showed the impact that the Dominion Borg threat had upon Human starship design.
I question that all other members of the Federation build starships designed by the Sol Alliance. As we saw in one STNG event, as shown in the salvage yard, Vulcan built starships of Vulcan design were used by Star Fleet. I question that Star Fleet Academy on Earth is the only Star Fleet Academy. I figure each race that joins the Federation is different in how it supports Star Fleet. Some races would keep on building their own starship designs with crews trained on their home planet with their own branch of Star Fleet Academy. When the Breen attacked Earth and attacked Star Fleet Command, Star Fleet Academy, and Star Fleet Medical, Star Fleet Shipyards San Francisco, killing 10 million on Earth, did Star Fleet stop fuctioning? No.
