The social network for Star Trek Fans!
The aim of this group is to bring fans of Star Trek together to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. It doesnt matter what club you are from, what group you belong to, or where you live, you are welcome here regardless.
This group is intended to transcend club politics and reach out to you. I see so many pages on facebook along the lines of "I bet I can get 1 million people who like/dont like X celebrity" Well, our goal is to find 1701 fans who will do something practical to help, whether, here, on facebook or elsewhere... what do we ask of you? Not alot actually - if each person who like this page, would make one small donation - whether in pounds, euros or dollars - think of the difference we can make. No-one will miss a one off donation of £2, its not even the price of a pint of beer or a packet of cigarettes. A magazine tends to cost that much nowadays. those of you who have already donated to my campaign (or elsewhere) are welcome here, you dont have to donate again unless you want to. All I ask is any newcomers make that small donation. Our Just giving page is: http://www.justgiving.com/starbase24 how do you know your money is going where I say it is? Well, donating through Just giving is completely safe. the money never goes to us and we have no access to it. It is sent directly to the account of Macmillan Cancer Support. there are other ways to donate, you are welcome to send a cheque to Macmillan, or put some money in their collecting tin next time you pass one. Or you can participate in some of our other fundraising schemes, join us and have some fun while helping a really worthwhile charity at the same time. so please, join us, make a small donation and invite all your friends to do likewise... and if you have fundraising ideas of your own or wish to participate in our fundraising, this is a good place for you to chat.
Live Long and Prosper!

Comment by Starbase 24 on April 14, 2013 at 6:49am "Well this campaign can and will acheive something - IF you support it" apparently my saying this is bullying and emotional blackmail... No. if people support our campaign it will acheive some good. If they dont support it, then it will be just another failed initiative. So what can people do?
Well, if you have a pound or two going spare, you can donate... to the just giving link would be great, sure, but if you prefer, go drop the price of a loaf of bread or a pint of beer in your local cancer charity box, whereever you are in the world.
If youre one of those people who have tons of friends in places like facebook, why not start your own just giving campaign and ask your friends to donate a pound or two? Its easy to do.
Or you can do something practical... do a sponsored walk or event of some sort. Hold a coffee evening, invite a few friends to come round, have fun with a movie and a light meal etc, then the extra money you would have spent if you'd gone out you all donate to charity. How does that work? Well, if you went to a movie and then pizza hut, you'd probably spend at least £20 (or equivalent in your local currency) Seeing the movie at home is free - so that money it would have cost you goes to charity, if 10 friends come over (and each bring a few nibbles) youve just raised £200... easy isnt it!
Theres so many things you can do, the only limit is your imagination and the amount of time and effort you have available.
If each member of this group does just one small thing to fight cancer, whether its a night in, a donation, a skydive, whatever... then this group has succeeded in its goal...
So its over to all of us... next week I am jumping out of a plane to raise money. What do you fancy doing?
Comment by Starbase 24 on April 14, 2013 at 6:07am Ok, IVe just received a message from someone attacking me for saying that hitting "like" on facebook is useless.
Well, you know what, I stand by that remark. Hitting like acheives nothing. ACtually, not true, what it achevies is making money for someone. the truth about these posts - like if you are a gainst cancer, click the photo to see what happens (nothing, its a jpg) Hit like and XYZ wil donate money for a child operation, hit like to win an ipad - They are all scams. A cold blooded and very successful effort to make money out of caring people. Don't beleive me? Read this and feel free to google for similar information to back it up.
so go ahead, read it... http://daylandoes.com/facebook-like-scams/
So please dont have a go at me for trying to acheive something. Feel free to carry on hitting like and making other business rich in the process. Me, I'll do something practical to help and if you don't like it then thats your problem.
Comment by Starbase 24 on April 14, 2013 at 2:36am Our just giving page is still active. any money donated here goes straight to the charity and not to us. You know, if each person donated just £2 or $2 or 2 euros (or whatever they can afford) and asked their friends to do the same, think how much we could acheive. http://www.justgiving.com/starbase24 - I'm sure you all see those posts on facebook - click like if you hate cancer... well what does it acheive? Nothing! Well this campaign can and will acheive something - IF you suspport it. thank you
Comment by Starbase 24 on April 14, 2013 at 2:32am Well, several months into 2013 and its been a busy year and looking to get busier. Starbase 24 continues to support Macmillan Cancer support, a really fantastic charity who provide nursing care for patients with cancer and support, help and information for their families and friends. In one week's time Iwill be jumping out of a plane from 15,000 ft (3 miles) to raise funds for them. We also have several other events planned for this year. So please do continue to support us.
