Well said, Lois. Don't worry, we didn't move here with those illusions. What most don't seem to realize is that when you get away from the casinos it's a city. There's a lot more to Las Vegas and North Las Vegas than gambling. Unfortunately, the economy is so tied to it that when the tourism takes a dip everything suffers.

When you consider the fall of 2008 was when the bottom truly fell out of the economy, at the very least there would probably have been reduced hours, less maintenance, and probably, yeah, the place would have ultimately closed. OTOH, the movie opened the next summer, so who knows.

Vegas is a gamble, always has been. This isn't the first time the city crashed. I think there's something innate about Vegas that makes a lot of folks see only the potential of winning when they buy a home or a business - more so than any other city. (Like the Megabucks machines. I WILL be a winner someday by the way.) The thing I keep coming back to because I love Vegas is that people want Vegas to be a winner. And it's not just in America but around the world. Vegas symbolizes the big win and we want that shining star to grab for. The city may be beat to a pulp now but like a rhinestone Phoenix, it will arise. Always has.

That is a good question. Attendance probably would have fallen off, it has for everything else here.
