Does anyone feel real stupid for believing some Star Trek Ideas? One idea is that a ship could travel at the speed of light or many times the speed of light.

Comment by Robert Brennan on September 27, 2012 at 10:23am Hi Phil, sorry to have to disagree with you on this point. ST-III - The Search For Spock {though he had less screen time the plot is in the title) ST-VI - The Undiscovered Country (Spock took the lead as a Sherlock Holmes style investigator) ST-X - Spock was central to the main plot, even Chekov had a more decisive role. Kirk had his heroic moments but not the primary focus as originally envisioned by G.R. for TOS specifically. Just say'n.
Comment by Gal XE Questr on September 13, 2012 at 4:37pm lol. You're reading too much into the poster. I just happened to have that Spock image, which lent itself to a "dark" theme with some enhancement. Here's one you'll like better. I agree about the whole "darker & edgier" thing that's been coming out of Hollywood for years, no, decades. If there wasn't so much testosterone-driven bias, they'd notice family fare - anything Pixar, for instance - is big box office. Even on TV, Once Upon A Time is a big hit, and that's geared towards women with romantic adventure themes. If JJ & co mistakenly added the Uhura/Spock thing to the story to cater to women, he should have tried talking to some of us, first. All the female fans I know are into character issues, not romantic trysts. But of course most guys are into physicality, not psychology.

Comment by Robert Brennan on September 13, 2012 at 11:32am Everything out of Hollywood is 'Into Darkness' these days. Everything from Peter Pan to Snow White must be "dark". Give me a break. I'm hoping this isn't yet another Spock focused feature since Gene Roddenberry's original concept was about Capt.Kirk and his star ship Enterprise.

Comment by Gal XE Questr on September 12, 2012 at 5:50pm Wil, you can probably find exceptions, but I remember the "technobabble" as mostly legitimate sci-fi extrapolation of current scientific theory. I tend to pay attention to that sort of thing. Zeke; why would you need to know what the Romulans were doing during that time to understand the movie? We know they attacked Klingons; we assume they had plenty to do, just surviving and preparing and following the orders of their nutcase captain. Details don't seem relevant.

Comment by Wil Hostman on September 10, 2012 at 4:55pm TNG was often "saved by technobabble gadget of the week"… same for voyager. So the red matter only gets dinged for base-level implausibility.
