The truth is usually just an excuse for lack of imagination.
Before I became a tailor, I lived by one simple motto: Never let sentiment get in the way of your work.
Odo: I didn't know you spoke Klingon.
Garak: Oh, you'd be surprised at the things you can learn when you're doing alterations.
Quark: You weren't always a tailor.
Garak: You're right. I used to be a gardener. Now if you have something you want weeded, you let me know.
Quark: Not something, someone.
Julian: They broke seven of your transverse ribs and fractured your clavicle.
Garak: Ah, but I got off several cutting remarks which no doubt caused serious damage to their egos. Thanks to your administrations, I am almost completely healed, but the damage I did to them will last a lifetime.
Garak: Certainly computer entries were made on a regular basis.
Bajoran woman: I wouldn't know, I wasn't a volunteer then. I was in the underground.
Garak: Really! Perhaps we have met!
There's an old saying on Cardassia: Enemies make dangerous friends, and I fear the Dominion will make a very dangerous friend indeed.
Where you offer kindness, I offer mystery. Where you offer sympathy, I offer intrigue. Just give me a seat next to Odo's bed, and I promise you I'll conjure up enough innuendos, half-truths and bald-faced lies about my so-called career in the Obsidian Order to keep the Constable distracted for days. If there's one thing Cardassians excel at it's conversation.
Bashir: What I want to know is, out of all the stories you told me which ones
were true and which ones weren't?
Garak: My dear doctor...they're all true.
Bashir: Even the lies?
Garak: Especially the lies.
Take it from me, it's a lot more fun asking questions than answering them.
