One of the duties that I most eagerly anticipated when taking command of the chapter was to reward hard work, enthusiasm and overall commitment to the ideals of Star Trek and STARFLEET demonstrated by my fellow Members.   With that in mind, I am pleased to announce the first promotion under my watch

Marine Captain Robert Mabbit please step forward.  Since joining the crew a little over a year ago, you have completed 51 Academy and TRACOM courses – over 50% of which at Distinction level.  Furthermore, as OIC of the 380th, you have continued to promote SFMC initiatives to those under your command and interested in joining.  Finally, in your duties of 2nd officer, you have worked hard to encourage participation across the chapter.

I therefore have no hesitation in awarding you the rank of Major.

Congratulations Major!   Furthermore, it is my pleasure to announce that you are hereby appointed Executive Officer (XO).

Congratulations again, and I look forward to working with you.

Hello to the Ark Royal Crew and our ffriends on Trekspace

I hope everyone out there is doing well this fine Easter Weekend.  I'm certainly enjoying mine *hic*  I'm just on my way to the mess hall to pick up more Corona Beer, erm, I mean, books about Corrona's of Stars and thought I'd share some events I plan to attend with you.

First up, this Saturday, is the Manchester Starfleet meet up.  The MSF crew are a good bunch, and the Fab Cafe is a fantastic venue.  They are usually great afternoons, and I plan to be there for the full slog.

Next up, on the 28th April, I will be Running the Sherwood Shindig with my counterpart from the USS Isaac, Richard Mallatratt and another local fan.  This event promises to be highly enjoyable, and we would be honoured if you would join us.  http://nottsstarfleet.webs.com/sherwoodshindig.htm

Looking ahead to May, its the Greatest Show in the Galaxy on the 12th and 13th of May.  Anyone who is anyone in the World of Sci Fi seems to be there.  STARFLEET International will have an official table - contact Jason Garrett for more info - while I will be there with the Starbase 24 crew, I look forward to meeting you there!

I will also be at Collectormania in MIlton Keynes in June.

Looking ahead, theres Trekology at some point in August and the Starbase 24 Banquet on October 19th 20th in Peterborough.  I'm as excited as aever about this years Banquet, and it promises to host more of the usual fun and fundraising activities that make it the best Star Trek event in the country,.

And those are just the events that I'm likely to be going to!!!

There are plenty more out there.  Do share your own mission logs!

Back to the beer, I mean, books

I purchased my BDU's from Flecktarn. www.flecktarn.co.uk/ Just search BDU's on the site. They are of very good quality.

Regarding the ribbons, I've always got mine from the US from companies like Glendlae Parade Stores http://www.paradestore.com/ I have got to put in a ribbon order, so perhaps we could save on postages and make one large order? I was looking at ordering extra of the more common ribbons.

Ladies and Gents,

It is with great pleasure I present you all the 20th Brigade fitness program. A program designed to encourage us all to do that little something to improve our health and well-being. There fitness program currently has four categories;

Walking

Running

Cycling

Swimming

Each of these categories are broken down into award levels, which is detailed below along with the distance required to achieve each.

Walking Award 'The Order of Mercurius'

Soldier of the Order of Mercurius – 25 miles

Officer of the Order of Mercurius – 50 miles

Squire of the Order of Mercurius– 75 miles

Knight of the Order of Mercurius – 100 miles

Knight Officer of the Order of Mercurius  – 150 miles

Knight Commander of the Order of Mercurius – 200 miles

Grand Officer of the Order of Mercurius – 250 miles

Grand Knight of the Order of Mercurius – 300 miles

Grand Commander of the Order of Mercurius– 400 miles

Grand Cross of the Order of Mercurius – 500 miles

Running Award ‘The order of Atalanta’

Soldier of the Order of Atalanta  – 1 mile

Officer of the Order of Atalanta – 5k (approx. 3.1 miles)

Squire of the Order of Atalanta – 10k (approx. 6.2 miles)

Knight of the Order of Atalanta – 10 miles

Knight Officer of the Order of Atalanta – 13.1 miles (Half-Marathon)

Knight Commander of the Order of Atalanta -  26.2 miles (Marathon)

Grand Officer of the Order of Atalanta – 50k (31 miles Ultra Marathon)

Grand Knight of the Order of Atalanta – 75k (approx. 45 miles)

Grand Commander of the Order of Atalanta – 100k (62 miles)

Grand Cross of the Order of Atalanta  – 100 miles

Cycling Award ‘The Order of Castor’

Soldier of the Order of Castor – 5k

Officer of the Order of Castor – 10k

Squire of the Order of Castor – 10 miles

Knight of the Order of Castor  – 13.1 miles

Knight Officer of the Order of Castor  – 26.2 miles

Knight Commander of the Order of Castor – 50 miles

Grand Officer of the Order of Castor – 100 miles (Ultra-Cycling)

Grand Knight of the Order of Castor – 200 miles

Grand Commander of the Order of Castor – 300 miles

Grand Cross of the Order of Castor – 400 miles

Swimming Award ‘The Order of Neptunus’

Soldier of the Order of Neptunus – 50 metres

Officer of the Order of Neptunus – 100 metres

Squire of the Order of Neptunus – ¼ miles (approx. 400 metres)

Knight of the Order of Neptunus  – ½ miles (approx. 800 metres)

Knight Officer of the Order of Neptunus  – 1 mile (approx. 1500  metres)

Knight Commander of the Order of Neptunus – 1.2 miles (approx. 2000 metres)

Grand Officer of the Order of Neptunus – 2.4 miles (approx. 4000 metres)

Grand Knight of the Order of Neptunus – 3.1 miles (5k)

Grand Commander of the Order of Neptunus – 6.2 miles (10k)

Grand Cross of the Order of Neptunus – 10 miles

Once you achieve an award, for example Soldier of the Order of Mercurius  for walking 25 miles, the clock resets and you have to achieve 50 miles to receive Officer of the Order of Mercurius. The distances are, however, accumulative up, until you achieve the award, ie you may walk 5 miles each day for 5 days to achieve Soldier of the Order of Mercurius, the counter then resets and you would need to walk 5 miles each day for 10 days to achieve Officer of the Order of Mercurius and so on, and so on.

Score cards have been designed and are available from me upon request to record your achievements. You then simply log the details on the score card and on the 1st of the month e-mail me a scanned copy of your record, or if you are unable to do this a simple e-mail, or postal update would also be considered appropriate. If you would like to attach photographs of your efforts, even a report, please feel free.

The program itself will run from the 1st January to the 31st December, resetting on a yearly basis and all Marines of all ages, including Reserves, are eligible to participate.

You don’t need to be extremely athletic to participate in the fitness program, it has been designed for all fitness levels. Simply choosing to walk or cycle to school, or work instead of taking the car or bus, getting off the bus a stop early, all those little efforts will count in the program and you’ll be working towards a fitter you one step, stroke, or pedal at a time.

I will be adding to the program in time, to potentially include other disciplines, i.e. martial arts, racket sports, etc. and a challenge or two, but am also open to ideas from anyone else to expand what we have and get us all on the way for a fitter future.

I look forward to hearing from you all and if there are any questions feel free to get in touch.

To all members of the USS Ark Royal
SGM Marie Wilson, Regional Co-ordinator, SFI Region 20

Ladies & Gentlemen of the Ark Royal

Heraclitus of Ephesus is quoted as saying “Change is the only Constant”, and here on the Ark Royal that’s almost been our motto! A little over 18 months ago this ship was commissioned into Starfleet International with a different name and a different command crew. Around 10 months ago the Command Crew changed, and around 7 months ago the name changed.

So really it should come as no surprise whatsoever when I tell you that the time has come once again for a change on the Ark Royal. This time, we are saying thank you to our current Executive Officer, LTC Jason Garrett, and at the same time, wishing him good luck in his new venture!

Jason informed me recently that it was his intention to take the boldest step possible in SFI: to command a new chapter. I earnestly hope that in the not too distant future the official orders will come through Fleet Headquarters for the launching of the USS Britannia, NCC 2211. I am also extremely proud to advise you that we, the USS Ark Royal, have been asked to act as the USS Britannia’s support ship.

Jason – on behalf of the entire ship’s company, I thank you whole heartedly for everything you have done for the Ark Royal, and we wish you, and the crew of the USS Britannia fair winds and peaceful voyages in the months ahead.

As one XO leaves, another steps forward, but not on his own! I have taken this opportunity to expand the Chapter Command Team from 2 to 3. CO, XO & 2nd Officer. I believe that a dedicated 2nd Officer, with a directed portfolio will be of huge benefit to the ship.

Therefore, I would ask ENS Andrew Kerr & LT Daniel Adams to step forward:

Gentlemen, firstly, it is my honour to appoint you both to the substantive rank of Lieutenant Commander, with all the authority & privileges of that rank. Furthermore:

To Lt Cmdr. Andrew Kerr, Herein appointed Executive Officer of USS Ark Royal:
You are hereby directed and required to report forthwith on board of the said ship and take upon you the charge and command of Executive Officer of her accordingly; and all the officers and company of said ship subordinate to you are further charged and commanded to behave themselves jointly and severally in their respective employments with all due respect and obedience to you, their Executive Officer.

To Lt Cmdr. Daniel Adams, Herein appointed Second Officer of USS Ark Royal:
You are hereby directed and required to report forthwith on board of the said ship and take upon you the charge and command of second Officer of her accordingly; and all the officers and company of said ship subordinate to you are further charged and commanded to behave themselves jointly and severally in their respective employments with all due respect and obedience to you, their Second Officer.

I’m sure all the members of the Crew will congratulate you themselves, I will simply say thank you for agreeing to take on these roles. I know from our conversations that you both have a passion and determination to carry this ship onwards and upwards, and I very much look forward to working with you.

Entered into the ship’s official log by my hand. Stardate 2011.2210

In service
