Well, some people do not feel comfortable putting their 'Real' photos up on Social networking sites and that is up to each individual person.  I personally have at times put up symbol photos on my Social networking sites, like the IDIC pic or even the High guard symbol from Andromeda or maybe even a graphic art of the T.A.R.D.I.S.  Many Trek fans here put up their IMVU avatar photos or a photoshop pic of their favorite celebrity in a Trek uniform etc....

I costume, for Charity events, Conventions etc.  I enjoy Cosplay, I enjoy many diverse genres.  Some people enjoy costuming a lot, other's like yourself are more subdued in your Fan-dom.

I say to each their own.  I have had people make fun of my charity event costuming photos online FB, MP etc. and the one thing I have always taken away from Internet bullying is this....  People will be mean and unkind online and in the real world..... that is a given.  But I refuse to let anyone rain on my parade... ;)
