- I am a Sci Fi fan in general, but Trek is my first love and I am a member of a weekly club. See series reviews below. Fav authors are Aldous Huxley and Wells. Fav movies include Ed Wood, A Scanner Darkly, and Singing in the Rain - some actually outside the genre!

TOS: Still the best, and yes, it was the morality plays and the relationship of the Trinity.
TAS: Really good stories for the most part, same actors and writers, so what is the problem? If you don't like the animation, listen to it as a radio show!
TNG: Unbelievably good considering the act they had to follow. Patrick Stewart was a gift to the franchise, and it's clear GR and DC were involved.
DS9: One of the best, most eloquent statements on war ever done. Other great stuff, too.
VGR: I finally came around thanks to Mulgrew mostly, but struggle with the Borg stuff.
ENT: Some real gems (mostly Season 4) can be found but you may have to look hard.

Happy Birthday, Star Trek!
I invite you all to celebrate together by watching The Mantrap tonight, since it was the episode that first aired 45 years ago today. I plan to watch it, then raise a glass in toast at about 8 p.m.CST. Won't you all join me? I admit that it scared me when I first saw it but I had a lot of fun terrorizing my brother and sister playing salt monster once I got over my own fears. TOS composer RIP
Television and film music composer Fred Steiner, has died. He was 88. Steiner contributed music to more than two dozen episodes of the original "Star Trek" TV series, music that resurfaced in 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and, most recently, for "Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II." He also provided music, although uncredited, for Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" in 1983.

Dead birds in Arkansas evidence of Alien Ships?
Scientists say that the birds that fell from the sky in Arkansas were killed by blunt force trauma and their best guess is they were startled (possibly by fireworks) and crashed into each other in the air. People on the ground say no way, and it doesn't sound very likely to me either. It has now happened again in Louisiana and no word yet on a cause. I'm thinking they crashed into a cloaked spaceship and that is probably a more benign explanation than anything else… Continue

Greg Littlefield said… I thought the exact same thing regarding Spock & Uhura while watching it last night. So much potential character development in that episode, too! I particularly loved the ricochet sound effect and sped up film in the scene where Crater was shot. That was classic.
