March 19: On This Day In Science Fiction History

Star Trek fans might hate me for saying this, but I always thought that Farscape was exactly the kind of show that Star Trek: Voyager should've been: talk about a fish-out-of-water show!

Astronaut John Crichton found himself -- like Janeway and company -- transported to the…

March 18: On This Day In Science Fiction History

Actor J.G. Hertzler certain knows what Star Trek fans would love to see, and that's why he'll occasionally show up at conventions in full costume and make-up as Martok, the Klingon he played on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  Hertlzer was…

March 17: On This Day In Science Fiction History

The Star Trek: The Next Generation two-parter "Redemption" gets an awful lot of credit for igniting a frenzy amongst Trek fans to further study on the Klingon race, but, for my tastes, there was no better highwater mark than third season's…

March 16: On This Day In Science Fiction History

The Ice Pirates is a mixed bag for me.  I vaguely recall seeing it theatrically -- it premiered on this day back in 1984 -- but I honestly don't remember thinking all that much of it.  Others I know remember it much more fondly than I do.  Robert…

March 15: On This Day In Science Fiction History

On this day in 1956, humanity began what many cinema historians dubbed "a new age in science fiction" when audiences embraced Forbidden Planet for the first time: a starship crew headed by Commander JJ Adams (Leslie Nielsen) is sent to the planet Altair-4 in hopes of determining what…

Leonard Nimoy, A Legacy for Many

When the original series first aired, I was very young, and my dad was a fan, so watching Star Trek is among my first memories. One day, I took special note of Kirk and Spock on the bridge. Kirk was the Captain ... but when Kirk needed help, he turned to Spock for the Vulcan's…

Leonard Nimoy Passes: 1931 - 2015

It's been said that life is full of surprises.

Despite what naysayers would have you believe, we're not meant to understand all of it -- the "it" there being "life itself."  Simply put, life is.  It just is.  It is what you make of it.  It is what you put into it.  It is what you get out of…

Back from Tholian Space

Greetings,

Yeah, I know that I've been missing in action for quite a few months now. I've had a lot of personal nonsense going on that I won't bore you with, as well as being preoccupied with work, which I WILL tell you about in the weeks to come. Another thing that I'd like to mention is that the more I look back on Star Trek: Into Darkness, the more I realize that that movie sucked, big time. At first, I was just so desperate to see any new Star Trek that I was willing to overlook…

Raising my daughter with the help of Star Trek

Despite how young I am (in relative terms) I am an old fan. Read that as meaning Pre-TNG fan. I enjoyed the phasers fights, space battles, and fist fights the Original Star Trek supplied. I enjoyed Star Trek like other four year olds enjoy Star Wars or He-Man or Ghostbusters at the time. The social stories that were being told went about four feet over my head. But hey Captain Kirk just drop kicked a bad guy. And it was a time that my father and I spent time together doing things…

The return of Trek on TV?

This is pretty nifty.  I've been following this page on Facebook for a couple years and the folks behind the movement to get Enterprise a fifth season (who run this page, including Doug Drexler) post some really interesting information about what is going on behind the scenes.  It would seem that an agreement that kept Trek off TV (so as to not interfere with the JJ movies) expires this month.  Personally, I'm eager to see what this year holds as Trek should be a TV vessel for…

Just An Idea

I know that book to movie adaptations are a hit or miss, and this one will more than likely never happen, but I think the book "Night of the Living Trekkies" would make for a good movie or mini series. Heck, I'd even be willing to see it as a SyFy channel original movie if it came down to that instead. It's a good zombie story that that would be hilariously awesome and nerdy and perfect for a visual representation. Granted, a comic adaptation could work too, but I think it could suit the…

Star Trek: The Experience Crew Member Needs Your Help!

I just wanted to share the news that Richard Oden aka "Rog'l" from the former Star Trek: The Experience needs some help from his friends, fans, anyone who is willing to give a small donation.  Please take a couple minutes to read his story and consider making a donation.  As Rog'l, Richard brought joy into the lives of so many people; if everyone could just make a small donation we could raise the money he needs for his care.  It was because of wonderful people like Richard that STTE was the…

April 26: On This Day In Science Fiction History

I'm well aware that most folks don't consider superhero properties as legitimate sci-fi, but I figure they're close enough for our neck of the woods, and that's why I'll give a shout-out today to Mr. Tom Welling who turns another year older (starting from his birth on this day in 1977).  In Smallville, Welling played…See More
