April 15: On This Day In Science Fiction History

The actor who played Charlie X himself grows another year older as Robert Walker Jr (1940) celebrates a birthday today.  His episode was actually one of the first ones I remember seeing; that's not necessarily a surprise, but what is surprising is how his story of coming-of-age (of sorts) continues to resonate with viewers today.  It's universal, and…

April 14: On This Day In Science Fiction History

When I was a kid, one of the coolest things I could find on the TV dial was Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds (and, no, I'm not speaking about that God-awful Bill Paxton reboot movie that only had the cajones to features the Tracy Family as secondary characters).  It had enough action &…

A busy year and a good one

The last year has been a busy one for Starbase 24 and this year is going to be even busier and better.  Our 6th banquet, while smaller than usual due to an unfortunate clash of events, still raised £1632 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Our fundraising efforts have continued this year with the Starbase 24 charity skydive, to raise money for charities including Macmillan the German Shepherd Dog Rescue and Hounds for Heroes.

We were also honoured to be a part of…

Ron Perlman is just a legendary guy.  He's been HELLBOY, after all.  Plus, he's guest starred in a whole host of terrific genre projects, including the oft-maligned STAR TREK: NEMESIS.  Today, Mr. Perlman celebrates turning another year older, another year wiser.  Happy Birthday,…

April 12: On This Day In Science Fiction History

While she can now be seen regularly on ABC TV's ONCE UPON A TIME program, Jennifer Morrison caught the attention of Star Trek fans when she gave birth to Starfleet's legendary captain -- James T. Kirk -- in JJ Abrams' 2009 reboot of the franchise.  Ms. Morrison celebrates her birthday (1979)…

Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness (Part 4 of 4) Review (minor spoilers)

I’ve already heaped plenty of praise on the story that was STAR TREK: COUNTDOWN – the four-part comic book story published by IDW Comics that, literally, set the stage for the events within JJ Abrams’ pretty solid STAR TREK (2009) motion picture.  Briefly, everyone whom I know that read…
