Thank you to everyone who came last night to Star Trek Meetup Baton Rouge! It was nice to see a new face (Hey there, Mike!) and catch up with everyone on the latest happenings.
The first item on the agenda was going over the calendar of events. We decided to cancel the Easter gift wrapping-I just haven't had the time to call anyone, set it up, and advertise. If someone wants to take point on this for Christmas and handle it, I would be thrilled. I can walk you through it, and it would be a great idea for Christmastime to raise some funds for charity. Should we pick a date now?
Garak's Apprentices will be meeting for the first time next Friday at Mo's house (That's Ok, right, Mo?). This is our costuming workshop/stitch and bitch. We will be enjoying a showing of Firefly if that's acceptable to everyone. Good sewing abilities are not required-just be ready to be creative!! We will be having several events where costumes will be required.
Stennis Space Center will be Saturday March 8th. We will be meeting at the Welcome Center in MS (Exit 2, I-10) at 10 AM. Danyele mentioned getting there early would be a good idea since there is lots to see. Please wear some sort of Trek-ish/sci fi garb so we know you are with us.
There is a Houston Sci FI expo the following week, but no one is attending.
The production meeting will be at "Starbase Tutt" in Livingston on March 21st at 7 PM. Discussion of starting a monthly vodcast (to be shot at the production meetings) will be discussed along with future plans for our own Star Trek series. Even if you can't attend, we will be looking for writers, reviewers, etc to add to the vodcast. I'll start a private thread in the forums on the Forecastle so we can start working on it. Look for more details there...
At the end of March is a Klingon paintball game, and while we were all hoping to go, it looks like its not happening. Its too far, Ed and I can't find our gear (its in boxes), and its just not working out. Drat! No one throws a party like the Klingons, and I know I'm going to be bummed to cancel out.
April showers bring...SCRIPT FRENZY!!!! How better to kickstart our Star Trek episode then to start WRITING? ign up to learn more about it at http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/
A large discussion topic of the evening was our Commissioning on April 19th. I have everyone review the VRR to make sure I had addresses, names, etc correct AND THIS IS THE LAST CALL TO BE A PLANK HOLDER!!!! After Monday, you will not be able to listed as such. It doesn't mean much, you still can only have 10 items in the 10 items or less lane at the supermarket, but you do get a cool certificate. Sign up for SFI at http://www.sfi.org and let me know that you did, along with your address so I can add you to the roster. I can put "PENDING" for SCC #.
Since there will be people coming in from out of town Friday night, Celebration Station looks to be a great idea for a welcome. There are a couple of hotels nearby, (cheap), easy on/off the highway, plus there is a Cracker Barrel and Waffle House. This would be starting at 7 PM, and "pay your own way". As people arrive, they can come join us.
The Tutts will be hosting a crawfish boil and need a headcount that week so they know how many mudbugs to order. We also decided on party products and a banner for the event.
I will be volunteering at the Red Stick animation festival downtown BR the week before the Commissioning (like I'm not busy enough) for the free T-shirt. :-) Anyone care to join me?
The end of April is Jazzfest (suggested by Gail) and I added that on the calendar for the 26th. Billy Joel will be there that day, and I know Ed is a little homesick for thick Long Island accents. Gail will be working it to raise money for her Drum Corps, so we must do our part and buy lots of beverages from her. Right?
The May convention in Jackson (Galaxy of Stars) was discussed, and the guest list is a little weak right now to atttend. FedCon (Fort Worth) in June is looking fabulous, especially with Adam Baldwin in attendence. (CO's comment...of course, my cousin is getting married that weekend...in ATLANTA so I'll miss it!)
Movies will be aplenty in May-The Rave Movie theater would like us to do something for Speed Racer and Indiana Jones. There are Speed Racer costumes online, but we're kindof stumped on Indiana Jones. Discuss. ;-)
BabelCon has been moved to the weekend of July 19th and 20th to an undisclosed location that Randy wasn't supposed to post up yet. This conflicts with the Region 3 summit, so what will probably happen is that I will attend the R3 Event, and Danyele the Executive Officer will earn her paycheck (kidding!) and run the information table at BabelCon.
Don't forget ongoing fund raisers are Coupons, Boxtops, and ink cartridges.
There was some discussion of the next Trek movie, its moving from Christmas to May 2009, rumor has it Trekkers will have a cow because it doesn't stick to canon, and it involves the Romulans going back in time. Rumors at this point....but interesting.
Phase II (the Star Trek Fan film) was also brought up. Its high quality entertainment that will help pass the time until the next real Trek movie.
With that, the meeting was concluded, and of course, a rep for the local Baton Rouge Klingon ship showed up after we left. Sorry, Denzil!!
