I enjoyed the movie as an action movie but I didn't like the time line they went with. It was only done to grab new fans and make them into ST fans. They may have done that but many older Trek fans are not amused.
I don't understand why Paramount could not continue with the two time lines. The current movie time line and the other just after Nemesis. Another TV series like after Voyager or after DS9 or a new crew on the Enterprise E something in the time line us older fans know and love.

The movie is not suppossed to follow the established tomeline. It is a new timeline altogether...

The original time line has not be saved with this new movie. We now have a spock who loves sucking face in public and a universe with out a planet Vulcan and a third year cadet promoted to Captain just because he saved the hu-man race.

I can't agree with Son of Worf but I see his point. The fact that audiences today expect much higher production standards always meant the old series were going to be viewed as "dated" but the universe is a complete one and that's its attraction, the recent movie will also look dated in a year or two. Redoing the story ignores all the wealth of the existing storybase. IMHO cheers

I guess

Like in many entertainment genres, Star Trek was bound for a reboot. I think this was the smartest thing Paramount can do by going back to our heroes from TOS, but do it from the beginning. As much as I love DS9 and Voyager, it never had the appeal that TNG had and probably would only bring Trek fans to the theaters. That movie probably wouldn't bring in the money. This movie was able to bring in the money.
All in all it was a pretty good Star Trek movie. Did it have it's problems? Yes, but we could pick apart the other Star Trek movies for their problems also.
Lets face it. On the big screen and even the small screen Star Trek was a dieing franchise. I was at a sci fi convention a month ago, and I heard one of the Star Trek novel authors say, this movie gave Star Trek Viagra. I miss the Star Trek from the original time line also. However, many things in life, if it can't change it will die. This movie preserves the original time line while giving us a new time line to enjoy new stories and adventures with the original crew.

Yes its true Spock came back so there is a possibilty the old time line could restored with the new actors in the next movie. I personally don't they will but the could.

I have to agree with you, but then what's not to say that this didn't happen they way the movie did it. I for one am looking forward to the next movie and perhaps they will find a way to make things go back to the way they should be. Who knows.

I would like to see them do a movie involving DS9 and Voyager,. Both of those shows seems to have been pushed to the back burner so to speak. We know for example Janeway became an admiral but what else happened to her and her crew leading up to that? I'd love to see that what about anyone else?
