Today i finished - after a quite long time, but it just ought to be this way - Leonard Nimoy's second book "I am Spock". I really have only high praise for this book. It gives a lot of insight into Leonard's thinking and into this great artist's work which is quite wide-ranged and always amazing.
I read most of the classic Trek actor's autobiographies by now, I guess....but the one of Nichelle Nichols is still to be read, and I'm looking forward to reading it!
What I didn't know until this day when I read it, is that Leonard had been offered the job of an executive producer on TNG - and he refused because he just couldn't imagine that the lightning of Star Trek would struck twice, especially with other actors/characters than the classic crew. He was wrong, as he admitted without grief. And his belief in STAR TREK grew so firm that he even was a mentor to the very latest and all new Star Trek by J.J. Abrams. This is soooo wonderful! There were several moments in the book which brought me to tears....just remembering what Star Trek is all aboout and why I love it so much...and just because of our human condition and everything envolved...
Well, I'm so excited about the new movie. Now it's olnly a short time to go.....YIKES! I have to say, the pics of young Kirk (Chris Pine) are really sooooo cute....*'bigsmile*. I never thought that Kirk would be cute, honestly....hehe.
I hope, it will be like the "third lightning" for Star Trek! It's not only about the characters, it's not only about the stories, it's not only about the "canon", it's not only about the future, it's not only about the franchise.....STAR TREK is so much greater than its parts! I know it, we fans all know it! Star Trek has become a part of our lives....and that is a lot more than most media phenomena do.
I'm at this time loving Star Trek since 37 years....so i'm not afraid of coming ages *gg* But I will always love to see new energy coming to the Star Trek universe!
Live long and prosper!
