Sky News recently posted an article about how scientists from Scotland and the Czech Republic have created a "real-life miniature 'tractor beam'" which may aid in medical testing.
The article is very interesting, so I suggest giving it a look: http://news.sky.com/story/1042456/star-trek-tractor-beam-created-by...

??? (Thanks for the link.) The article is a bit nebulous. I've long known what the article states about light actually have a tendency to push an object away (ever ever so slightly) by the presence of photons moving it; however, the article states that this only happens for so long and then an adverse effect takes place (of pulling the object closer), and that's why I put some question marks at the start of my comment. How in the heck does that happen and what's their scientific explanation for it? I may have to Google to find more detail 'cause I'm not sure how that could even be remotely possible UNLESS they changed the frequency of the photons (non-educated guess), which theoretically might cause them to either pass through or around the object.
I can remember in my college days (don't ASK how long ago that was) that I'd done a research paper on the properties of photons shot from a TV tube had on individuals and plants, and it was kinda/sorta alarming. Today's TVs work from a different principle so it ain't all that detrimental, but it's interesting to read where it all started.
Still, I don't see how 'light' (as the article suggests) could draw an object nearer. Some kind of 'magnetic' property?
