I tend to think of Vulcans as beings that work with physics, mathematics, and technology.  But there must have been Vulcans who were tasked with studying and preserving history.  So perhaps my desire to live my life as a Vulcan who studies language and literature from the Europe's middle ages and medieval period is feasible after all.

If all Vulcans only studied physics, maths and technology it would be a very one sided society.  Who would grow the food?  Who would run the hospitals, who would weave the fabrics they wear, craft the jewels they wear, care for the children?  We know there are Vulcan diplomats - Sarek was one Languages and no doubt xeno history would be among one of the many things a diplomat would study.

I think Q is right. I doubt a Vulcan lifestyle would mean studying language and literature from different time periods is off limits. It seems that you can do nearly anything as a Vulcan as long as you are able to do so with reason and a good handle on your emotions.

The more I read your thoughts about this, the more it seems that you are already living the Vulcan lifestyle -- at least as much as a seemingly even-tempered, thoughtful and logical man can.

Wouldn't the Vulcan concept of IDIC, "infinite diversity in infinite combinations," argue in favor of being open to broadening one's horizons beyond physics, mathematics, and technology? And extend into cultures different than one's own ... You need no one's permission to be your best self.
