TREKSPACE

The social network for Star Trek Fans!

I haven't been part of Trekspace for very long and I wonder why so many of you don't want to belong any more? I realize it's you right and I don't mean to be a wise guy about it, I am just curious. Is something going on that I am missing?

I'm here too...just not much because I am just busy and dealing with the stress of daily life. I have a kid with severe behavioral problems, I'm constantly being judged and misjudged by others in my own town and community, and then trying to find a house, had two deaths in the family, ....etc. etc. etc. And lately the internet in general has been boring. It's the same old stuff everywhere I go so I just don't get online as much. Now am getting ready to make a few business trips. It will pick up...it always does. I've not been here very long, but right now it's summer time and people are out doing their summer vacations, swimming, BBQing, holidays, festivals and stuff that's more common in the summer. I'm sure things will ultimately pick up.

Brad, I believe there were some intolerant, rude, and non-family-friendly posts made by some members who have since been removed from TrekSpace. The offending posts have also been removed, leaving no trace behind. I think the posts were mainly instigated by differing opinions about the latest Star Trek movie.

As a result, at least two splinter groups have formed. One contains the group of people who felt TrekSpace was censoring them. The other group was started by the previous administrator of TrekSpace who I imagine was fed up with having to deal with the rabble-rousers and could have more control by running her own site.

That's my take on the situation. I was hoping for more blog posts from members on TrekSpace. Admittedly, the lack of response to my blog posts has made me weary of posting anymore.

Alec has elected to bring about a wholesome area in which to discuss things Trek-related. Although I do not agree with everything he's against (the word "suck" comes to mind), my dealings with 5000 different personalities on a bi-annual basis has made me very acute of the opinions and attitudes of those I wouldn't share a seat next to on the bus.

The internet is a way for those who would not stand toe to toe with you in discussing varying issues, convey their dislikes more than their likes especially if it's their intent to insult you. I was brought up in the streets of Baltimore and if some of the things said here where within ear shy of the individual saying it, I'll bet my lunch money that that guy wouldn't be saying it much longer.

The internet is a cave. a place where someone can not be seen but can see you thus tossing the stones your way. They usually yell "psst", hoping to gain your attention thus making you a victim of their opinions. The right to free speech doesn't come with the brains to use it. That's where you are tested to see if you, in fact, can utilize the art of common sense. Many fail. Many get chastised and leave for another site. Me? I think this site is fine and I have no intentions of jumping ship because it isn't sinking.

Because this is Alec's site, he can do any dang thing he pleases to keep it to his liking, with your concerns running a close second. If you don't like it, leave. we won't fault you for all sorts of people chose to congregate amongst their own. I should know. I spend 365 days a year conversing, managing and hand smacking many fans from 30 different countries who thinks they have the right to do or say anything you want. If any of you think you can, you're wrong. As long as you are a guest in someone's house, YOU WILL follow the rules of hospitality or allow the door to hit 'ya where the good Lord split 'ya!

Simple enough?
